Caroline Cameron-Blackgrove

Cameron-Blackgrove graduated from the Otago Polytechnic School of Art.  Her childhood was spent growing up by the Awamoa Creek in Oamaru with a creative family, many pets and wildlife, influencing the focus of her work on the portrayal of nature.  She describes her bird jewels series as “Reflecting the fragility of New Zealand’s ornithology and the sad and mysterious untold stories of bird extinctions such as Huia.  These little birds on canvas are presented like little treasured and delicate jewels holding requiem gold and silver jewels with the food which they consume.  Ultimately the paintings are here to remind the viewers about our delicate and beautiful wildlife.”
